We see people... and we want some of them who are truly special to see us too...

Ideally they see you as special, too.

If not… maybe then we have to rethink our “choices” a bit.

...yes, when I was young I watched TV series to see how other people acted in life...and it never matched my reality...

Maybe TV series got a little better over the years… I found quite some parallels to my family in the series "Shameless". Of course, not as intense but some patterns were spookily similar…

Jackson Galaxy, a cat behaviourist in US had a programme, The Cat from Hell, a few years' ago. In one of the episodes the poor cat wouldn't come out from under the bed: it had been so deprived that it was terrified of humans. Bit by bit, with the appropriate encouragement from Jackson, the cat gained confidence and eventually became a happy cat who trusted its caregiver. Your sensitive, thoughtful writing reminded me of this. Tails up 🐈.

Yep, so many similar stories for animals from shelters…

In German, we have the word “Kellerkind,” which goes in that direction. It means something like a child who grew up in the basement without much light and love.

Locking children into the basement for a couple of hours as punishment was pretty common in the past… not so much when I was a child tho… but whenever my father was fed up with me coughing, he sent me there too…

Tho this may all sound quite dark, it also shows how resilient we are as human beings and hopefully also that we learn from all that…

Oh! That was so cruel of your father. Although it's a new German word for me, hope I don't have to use it despite 'kind' meaning warm and generous in English lol 😆
